Bad band T-shirt DAY ONE: Formed in 1983, Cubicle Smell became the only band to specialize in worker’s compensation music. This unique genre combined elements of 60’s light rock, 50’s doo wop, and a slight influence of Depression era vaudeville accompaniment. Cubicle Smell became well known throughout the office farms of America, becoming a listening pastime for those frustrated by white collar culture but weren’t wild enough to join the hippie movement. It was a sort of stick it to the man, but you didn’t because you need the promotion type thing. Band members Larry, Oliver, Wilson, and Ethan met in high school forming the initial band that would evolve into Cubicle Smell. Bad band T-shirt DAY TWO: Stephen and the Door Hinges became the greatest band to grace the punk rock scene of upstate New York. Most people know of them because of their infamous performance near Niagara Falls in 1993. The more legendary version of the story involves the band member throwing out actual door hinges to the audience, causing several audience members injury including sustaining concussions. Oblivious to the chaos in the crowd, they played through their set including their hit EP “Are Recessions Bad for the Door Business?” Following the song they were quickly booed off stage. They did try to go on a comeback tour as you can see from the T-shirt. Bad band T-shirt DAY THREE: Thousands of bands have never reached star status. Savannah with the Guthries is one such case. For some inexplicable reason the band refused to perform outside of a two-block radius of Rockefeller Plaza. Fans urged them to expand their touring schedule and touring locations, but They balked at the request responding that their muse was that small area on Manhattan island. In other words, it would kill their creative mojo. Their last tour was not very well attended, but still the die-hard fans came out to support. They only made a few of these tees and they have become a treasured piece of rock and roll memorabilia. Bad band T-shirts DAY FOUR: A true gem of the 1990s capitalist counter culture, 90 Day Returns rocked out not only l to sold out audiences, but they rocked Wall Street in a famous protest concert in 1997. Know for their general disgust of the materialist culture they also were heavily involved in the crusade against ridiculous return and exchange policies. With a mix of traditional rock and a healthy portion of performance art, Has Anyone Found Gary was only in existence for one week. Film Frame Studies

I love movies and am awed by the unique craft of cinematography. I thoroughly enjoy taking my favorite frames from films and sketching them out to discover what makes it such a phenomenal shot.

I wanted to do a study of one of my most favorite frames in film history. #DarthVader is probably the greatest cinematic villain, but we can’t forget that #StarWars is a saga about redemption. Every time I see this scene in #TheEmpireStrikesBack it’s like a gut punch. While he dons this intimidating armor, beneath it all is a scarred and scared man. Star Wars is a fun space romp, but this shot always brings a humanistic reality to the whole story. #StarWarsArt #VaderUnmasked #DavidProwse #Skywalker #AnakinSkywalker #VaderHelmet #StarWarsEpisode5

A little study of one of the best finale shots in cinema. (Also, it’s way too hot in LA so this scene made me feel a little cooler.) #FiddlerOnTheRoof is such a unique human story about wanting to be routed to tradition, but people and the world around you won’t allow it. #Tevye has to be among my favorite fictional characters and this scene sees him driven out of his home also having seen his three eldest daughters taking different paths counter to his wants. However, right at the end, the fiddler, who arguably represents the beauty but unsteadiness of tradition, follows behind the cart. The fiddler teases Tevye with a small tune to which, after a brief moment, Tevye nods forward. And so the party goes to find new traditions in a new land. The nuance of this musical cannot be overlooked and the way it transformed musicals is still being felt to this day. #Topol #IfIWereARichMan #SunriseSunset

A film frame sketch I did from the great #TheGodfather. I was familiar with the overall premise of the trilogy and some of the over-quoted, parodied lines, but I didn’t watch any of the films until a few months ago. Wowee! What a great film series (Part 3 has its issues, I know, I know). It’s a story of family, greed and power that is still impactful today. Naturally the lines that get quoted the most often belong to Brando in the opening scene, but before that has to be one of the most incredible opening shots paired with the most perfect first lines in film. “I believe in America.” After uttering this line while the screen is still black, we open to see a tight close-up of Bonasera. In one of the best written monologues, he begins to tell the story of how his daughter was beaten by two men who intended to assault her. The camera slowly pulls away from him finally resting on the silhouette of Don Corleone. This shot last nearly three minutes, and masterfully captures the audience’s attention like very few films can.
